Game of Thrones

Warnings: sexual themes, violence, swearing.
Author: George R R Martin

‘Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men. All will play the Game of Thrones.
Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plot, lusts and intrigues; to the vast frozen north, where a 700-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond.
The Game of Thrones.
You win, or you die.’

This book is longer than anything I will ever write. Combined. 780 pages of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, arranged marriage and plain old death. Not that I didn’t like it.

Each chapter flips between different members of different families- Stark, Lannister and Targaryen. This makes the reader see all of the angles of events happening in the book, but I think you also get a favourite character, who you will stick with. For me, this was Daenerys because I just loved her storyline. Everyone knew what was happening to her, but she didn’t know what was happening to anyone else.

There are some slightly awkward bits that made me what to curl in a ball on the floor and wish that I was innocent again, but it’s outshadowed by the BRUTAL MURDER.

The constant changing of power puts the reader on edge, and the dangers that each character falls into leaves us waiting for their next chapter in terror- except for Tyrion because he’s a smug little bastard.

Also I really want a pet direwolf to follow me everywhere. It’s like a super dangerous pokemon.

All in all, the mix of danger and magic looming over everything combines to make a great book. Even though there are no dragons other than the dead ones. And it takes like 2 weeks to finish.
